Before you stands a 1966 Mercedes-Benz 200 W110 – a diesel-powered Fintail sedan embodying German engineering excellence, now a timeless classic in our Indian exhibit.

Part of the W110 series introduced in 1961, the 200 was the refreshed entry-level model from July 1965, succeeding the 190D. Known as “Heckflosse” for its subtle tailfins, over 628,000 W110s were built until 1968, famed for their durability and safety innovations like crumple zones.

Notice the elegant three-box design with chrome-trimmed fins and wraparound bumpers. This 200 features the 2.0-liter OM621 inline-4 diesel engine, producing 55 horsepower, paired with a rare automatic transmission for effortless cruising. Top speed around 80 mph, with independent suspension and disc brakes for refined handling.

Inside, a spacious cabin for five with bench seats, wood-trimmed dashboard, and optional air conditioning. The build quality is legendary – solid doors, precise gauges, and a focus on longevity that saw many taxis rack up millions of kilometers.

Fun fact: The W110 was extensively crash-tested, a first for Mercedes, emphasizing occupant safety in an era when it was often overlooked.

Today, this 1966 example is one of the best-preserved diesel automatics in India – its paint and chrome still shining, a snapshot of 1960s luxury and reliability, now part of our heritage.
